Texas Level III Armed Security Course
Comprehensive Level III Training Covering Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and Emergency Response
The Texas Level III Armed Security Officer Course is the mandatory training required for individuals seeking to become commissioned (armed) security officers in Texas. This intensive program provides students with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to perform effectively in a security role while ensuring compliance with state regulations.
This course meets and exceeds the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Private Security Bureau (PSB) requirements and prepares students for real-world security assignments in various environments, including corporate security, executive protection, and asset protection.
In addition to fulfilling all Level III training requirements, this course includes extensive practical training in firearms handling, defensive tactics, and emergency response.
Core Topics Include:
Handgun & Firearms Safety – Safe handling, operation, and maintenance of duty weapons
Shotgun Training (Optional Certification) – Use of 12-gauge pump or semi-automatic shotguns
Use of Force & Legal Considerations – Understanding Texas laws governing security personnel
Defensive Tactics & Hand-to-Hand Combat – Close-quarters control techniques and suspect handling
OC (Pepper Spray) Certification – Proper deployment and legal considerations for OC spray
CPR/AED & Stop the Bleed – Life-saving medical interventions for trauma and cardiac emergencies
Required Equipment for Students
Each student must bring the following:
Handgun with an OWB (Outside the Waistband) holster (No Serpa or Uncle Mike’s holsters)
Two (2) Magazines
200 Rounds of Ammunition
Shotgun (if seeking shotgun certification) – 12-gauge pump or semi-auto (round count provided in class)
Lunch & Water – Bring food and hydration for the training day
Valid ID – Required for course registration
Notepad & Pen – For taking notes during classroom instruction
